Sacred Heart Church Renovation

Owner: Archdiocese of Chicago
Location: Winnetka, IL

Square Footage: 10,500
Completion Date: Oct 1995

The church was renovated to conform the interior to the renewed liturgical requirements. The ceiling and walls were painted in light colors, and indirect lighting replaced existing hanging fixtures. This change emphasized the height and architectural configuration of the ceiling. The stained glass windows were cleaned and restored to enhance their rich colors. Ceiling arches were restored and detailed stenciling added. Bases were added to the arches to emphasize the architecture and to conceal the lighting. The ambo, altar and candle holders were designed to reflect the historic style of the church. Marble was recycled from the original altar, adding continuity with the past.
