Vera Meineke Interpretive Center

Owner: Schaumburg Park District
Location: Schaumburg, IL

Square Footage: 8,051
Completion Date: Sept 1987

Situated on 135 acres of prairie, this facility is designed to educate visitors about conservation of natural resources. The partially earth-sheltered building grows out of the landscape and includes a laboratory, craft classroom, library, exhibit space, and multi-purpose room for 50 people. The greenhouse serves as a display area for plant specimens and a passive solar collector. The concrete silo acts as an overlook for visitors. The Interpretive Center was thoughtfully designed to enhance the visitor's appreciation of the prairie landscape and to reflect harmony with our natural history and future.
