Made possible in part by an Illinois Clean Energy grant, this project
will incorporate environmentally sensitive methods such as displacement
ventilation, geo-thermal heat pumps and recycled building materials.
Several buildings, listed on the National Register for Historic
Places, will be renovated for adaptive reuse. The Brushwood Mansion
will become a meeting center. The upstairs hayloft of the Main Barn
will be converted into an assembly space, preserving the historic
features. An appropriately massed Visitor Center will be added to
maximize public access and blend with the surrounding historic buildings.
An onsite cistern will handle fire protection. Co-generation of
power is also being considered.
