This gym is located inside what was once a parking garage. It and
its associated restaurant are now the cornerstone of a mixed-use
30-story highrise. The design answers the challenge of constructing
a graphic, high-image space within existing physical constraints.
To present a pleasing atmosphere, the exposed concrete shell needed
to be masked—achieved by fabric wall panels and wooden gull-wing
ceiling segments. Translucent fabric banners drape over the fitness
center, pool and restaurant to hide visible construction. Enlarging
and curving the narrow, irregular spaces of the former garage enhanced
user circulation.
