The firm of Serena Sturm Architects is founded on the belief in sustainability. This building ethic dictates such design elements as sensitive building orientation, right-sized HVAC equipment, vegetated roofs, low VOC emitting finishes and the incorporation of daylight among many other innovative ideas. Our firm has been advocating these principles long before they became fashionable in the media and society. Borne out of a deep respect for the balance that should exist between the built and natural environments, the architects at Serena Sturm have been designing sustainable buildings since 1985. These buildings are healthier and more amenable to its occupants while being less taxing on the surrounding environment.

What is Sustainability?

As architectural and environmental issues become intertwined, the time has come for buildings that are more economical to heat and cool, more comfortable for its occupants, and more friendly to the earth. While many firms incorporate some efficient design features into building construction, our firm has focused its energy on the design of sustainable systems from the bottom up. Features from one system complement another, resulting in outstanding gains in functionality, comfort, and energy efficiency. The net outcome is a building where all systems work in harmony with one another, proving more can be accomplished with less.

Sensitive design strategies restore and enhance natural wildlife habitats and create a synergy between the built and natural environments. Serena Sturm Architects is committed to this architectural ethic. We design buildings that are bright and well-lit, comfortable and healthy, energy and resource efficient, functional and long-lived, warm in winter and cool in summer.
