The school is chartered specifically to teach about the environment and sustainability. The resulting design exemplifies that charter with classrooms that have crefully configured windows to bathe the interior in natural light, high efficiency indirect lighting for diffuse and even light levels, operable windows located for natural ventilation coupled with ceiling fans to reduce dependence on the mechanical systems, radiant floor heating to avoid potential drafts and noise while delivering heat at the level of students from a highly efficient geothermal source, and material selections that are clean and avoid off-gasing while also having either renewable or recycled content. All these combine to create an extraordinary learny environment that is comfortable, healthy, and both energy & resource efficient.
